Where green innovation meets small and medium sized enterprises – that is the GT Hub at Memmingen Airport. The GT Hub is creating a collaborative ecosystem of SMEs, start-ups, young companies, science & research and investors in which innovative projects, business models and companies can grow. The GT Hub offers state-of-the-art office and workshop space and a variety of events for networking and knowledge exchange. Locally in Memmingen and digitally globally networked. Renewable, efficient energies, new materials, innovative green business models, circular economy, digital solutions, AI – the GT Hub operates across all sectors with a focus on energy, industry, mobility, construction and packaging.
As a reference building, we were able to equip the top floor of the GT Hub with HyWin. This brings together a rising ecosystem for green technologies and an attractive building with a sustainable, resilient and smart facade. The GT Hub at Memmingen Airport, which will be in operation by summer 2025, offers 5000m² of office and workshop space as well as a roof terrace.
The HyWin modules are designed as an element facade so that they can be prefabricated and then installed on site. This reduces the construction time and increases the quality of implementation. Due to the set construction method of the facade, this is implemented for the GT Hub using a special assembly concept with a counterweight suction system. The project is jointly realized with RAICO and Mundal.
In addition to the innovative HyWin facade, the GT Hub is also equipped with an innovative energy system. HyWin is supplemented by decentralized ventilation units. Heat is supplied via a renewable energy based local heating grid with a installed capacity of 300 kW for the GT Hub itself as well as for the nearby event shelter. The building is cooled via 20 geothermal probes, 215 thermally activated building piles and a compression chiller for peak loads. In total, 270 kW of cooling capacity is installed. The hydraulics in the building allow energy to be shifted efficiently between six groups, for example between different sides of the facade.
The key element for sustainable, resilient and cost-efficient building operation lies in the smart control of the HyWin modules. This controller communicates with multi-sensors in the rooms in order to condition these rooms with a high level of comfort. It also interacts with the building management system of the GT Hub in order to achieve optimum results for the building as a whole.
